Roadmap for Small and Emerging Contractors in San Diego County

second Floor—make the right moves
Step 11. Develop a written safety plan and manual

Because it’s right and because it’s the law – develop a written safety plan for your workers to follow. IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN OSHA COMPLIANCE MANUAL IN ALL MANDATED AREAS, IT COULD COST YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN FINES!

Hold weekly tailgate safety meetings with all employees, take roll, and keep records of topics discussed.

Your Association can help you, so call them first (see step #14). They may have professional safety programs and/or consultants to assist you.

  • For example, you can get professional help from www.oshaman.com or other safety consultants in your area like San Diego-based Quantum Risk Management at www.qrmonline.com. You can purchase OSHA-compliant Construction Field Manuals for as little as $100 to get you started. Then you can modify and tailor the Plan as you grow.
